Dry needling is a technique PT's use for the treatment of injury and movement problems.  The technique uses a thin "dry" needle, one without medication or injection, inserted through the skin into areas of the muscle. Physical therapists use dry needling to release or inactivate trigger points to relieve pain, decrease muscle spasm, and/or improve movement. This treatment can help speed up your recovery and return to activity.

Pilates based rehabilitation is one of the fastest growing treatment techniques in physical therapy.  It involves the use of special Pilates equipment and training to help the therapist manipulate gravity, and to supply assistance to a movement that might otherwise be too difficult or painful to perform. The ability of the therapist to use springs, levers, and gravity provides a continuum of assistance and resistance to help the patient or individual reach their ultimate performance goal. This positive movement experience leads to enhanced performance for both everyday activities and sports.

As we get older our balance tends to regress, which increases our risk for falls. Physical Therapy has been shown to improve balance, gait speed, and decrease the risk of falls. This can be done with simple exercises under the instructions of a skilled physical therapist.

Blood Flow Restriction Training

BFR refers to a form of treatment that is being utilized by many PTs around the country and the world. The basic premise is that you use a pressure cuff to partially occlude or block blood flow into an extremity. You will then perform a low load exercise under this condition. After completing several sets of a movement, you will remove the cuff device.

Research is beginning to show that this therapy can achieve strength gains and healing without having to perform high load activity through several physiological pathways. This can be beneficial, as lifting heavy objects for strength gains may not always be an option, and may do more harm than good. This technique has been shown to be helpful in conditions ranging from chronic tendon issues to healing/ recovery following a surgery.

Having proper ergonomics is so critical to your health that employers are obligated to provide reasonable accomodations. You may have completed your company's ergonomic checklist and yet your desk and chair still don't seem to relieve your issues.

Pre and Post Op

Physical therapy before an operation helps educate the patient about the surgery, what to expect, learn and practice some exercises that will help restore range of movement, muscle strength and function.

After the surgery, physical therapy helps restore function by encouraging exercises that improve range of motion, muscle strength, balance, gait and transferring ability and function.  A series of graduated and supervised home exercises enable a smooth recovery.
