What To Expect

Dynamic's Women's Health PT has a focus on helping you prevent, manage, reduce and resolve the pain, injuries and pelvic floor conditions that are common for women throughout the lifespan including preparing for pregnancy, during pregnancy, and postpartum.

While we know that reaching out for pelvic floor treatment can be intimidating, we are here to assure you that we can provide comprehensive care in a comfortable setting. Here’s what you can expect in your first session.

Sessions are usually 45-60 minutes in length, one-on-one in a private treatment room. We first sit and discuss what brings you in, concerns, and ask all the questions about pooping, peeing, sexual health, exercise, nutrition/hydration, day to day activities, etc. After getting all the details the therapist performs an assessment which typically includes:

  • Looking at your posture

  • Checking your pelvic alignment and range of motion

  • Assessing your abdominal wall for tenderness/trigger points

  • Assessing for diastasis recti/abdominal separation, cesarean scar

  • Evaluating hip and gluteal strength

  • Evaluating your breathing strategies

  • Doing an internal pelvic floor muscle assessment to check strength, muscle tension and tone. This is done through the vagina and will ONLY be performed with your consent and if you and the therapist feel that this is necessary for your care. Lots of pelvic health treatment can occur without this part of the exam.

You will leave the appointment with lots of education on what you can do now, some stretches and exercises, and then discussion of next steps for physical therapy.
