Michael Borst, ORA Trails Vice President, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and local runner, participated in the Bluffland Traverse run on Saturday, November 5th, 2022!
The Bluffland Traverse is a point to point route running from the Northern end of La Crosse county to the Southern end following the Mississippi River and the Bluffs that overlook it.
The route identified is a hiking route that utilizes a combination of road, gravel bike path, shared use trail, and other single track trail on public property to connect the county and its various communities.
Michael created this route after sitting on the Bluffland Coalition for several months. While this trail is in its infancy, Michael hopes to continue to build traction and attention to continue to develop this point to point route to its highest potential, along with many other coalition members.
When Michael sat in on committee meetings earlier this year, he knew that the plan that was being talked about was something special. With many moving parts and involved parties, it was clear that this wasn’t going to happen overnight. Michael took a chance, made a preliminary route with the end goal in mind, and started to give it attention. 53 miles of a point to point route with the goal of one day being all one beautiful trail connecting different parts of our scenic area.
Throughout this experience, the community has shown so much support. Michael never felt alone with so many people jumping in to run, cheer, and support his journey. So far the Bluffland Traverse raised over $3,000 to continue to support our goal and work towards making the route the best it can be. Our community is truly amazing!
We hope this continues to motivate others, as it motivated Michael, to work towards developing more awesome things in your area. While we hope we can continue to develop the route, we do know that this definitely won’t be the last time you hear about the Bluffland Traverse!
